What's wrong with my car?

I have a 2004 Infiniti g35. I was testing out the acceleration. I got the cars rpm just below red line. Then the car just stopped accelerating. I hit the gas again and it wouldn't respond. I pulled over and turned my car off then turned it right back on and it worked fine. However now the "service engine soon" light is on. Does anyone know why the car just stopped like that and why the engine light is still on?
