There are 4 divisions in each confrence, the team with the best record in each division goes to the playoffs and two other teams in each confrence that doesnt win their division have the chance to make the playoffs by getting whats called the wildcard spot. So theres a total of 12 teams in the NFL playoffs (6 in each confrence). The team with the best record in each confrence gets a first round bye and the wild card teams have to play eachother.
