Can you provide one good, nonreligious reason that gay marriage should not be legalized in the US?

Sodomy used to be illegal- marriage between a woman & man never has been. It's funny how something that was illegal in all of the US in now legal & now want to legalize the union of sodomy. Is that non-religious enough? The church & state were seperate yet the laws were against sodomy!
